RBI Grade B 2026 — Expected Cut Off
Expected Cut Off — Source & Basis
RBI Grade B 2026 official cut off will be declared after result. The figures below are expected/reference cut offs based on 2023, 2024, and 2025 RBI Grade B result data. Actual cut off will depend on 2026 vacancies, difficulty, and number of qualified applicants.
Note: RBI does not publish Phase 1 cut off separately — Phase 1 is qualifying only. The figures below refer to Phase 1 qualifying marks and final merit (Phase 2 + Interview) cut off ranges.
Expected Cut Off Highlights
Phase 1 — Expected Qualifying Cut Off (Out of 200)
| Category | Expected Cut Off (/200) | % of Total | Safe Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 110–120 | 55–60% | 125+ |
| OBC | 100–110 | 50–55% | 115+ |
| EWS | 95–105 | 47–52% | 110+ |
| SC | 90–100 | 45–50% | 105+ |
| ST | 80–90 | 40–45% | 95+ |
| Note | Phase 1 cut off NOT counted in final merit — focus on Phase 2 preparation from day 1 | ||
Phase 1 Strategy
GA (80 marks) dominates Phase 1 — a strong GA score alone can carry you above the cut off. Target 55+ in GA, 20+ in English, 22+ in Quant, 38+ in Reasoning as safe benchmarks for UR category. Phase 1 is qualifying — don't over-invest time here at the cost of Phase 2 preparation.
Final Merit — Expected Cut Off (Out of 375) — Phase 2 + Interview
| Category | Expected Final Cut Off (/375) | % of Total | Safe Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR | 255–270 | 68–72% | 280+ |
| OBC | 240–255 | 64–68% | 265+ |
| EWS | 230–245 | 61–65% | 255+ |
| SC | 220–235 | 59–63% | 245+ |
| ST | 200–218 | 53–58% | 225+ |
| Formula | Phase 2 (300) × 0.80 + Interview (75) × 0.20 = Max 375 marks | ||
Final Merit Strategy
To score 280+ in final merit (UR safe target): Target 200+ in Phase 2 (out of 300) and 50+ in Interview (out of 75). Phase 2 contribution = 200 × 0.8 = 160. Interview contribution = 50 × 0.2 = 10. Total = 170 — add up. English Writing (Paper II) is a differentiator — a well-written essay can give you 15–20 extra marks over average candidates.
Year-wise Final Merit Cut Off Trend — UR Category
| Year | Phase 1 UR Qualifying (/200) | Final Merit UR (/375) |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 (Expected) | 110–120 | 255–270 |
| 2025 | ~108–115 | ~248–262 |
| 2024 | ~105–112 | ~242–258 |
| 2023 | ~100–108 | ~235–250 |
Cut Off Trend Analysis
RBI Grade B cut offs show a gradual upward trend as competition grows. For 2026 planning: Phase 2 target — 200+/300 and Final merit target — 280+/375 (UR). The English Writing paper (Paper II) and descriptive portions of ESI and FM are the biggest differentiators — candidates who write well-structured, RBI-aware essays consistently score higher.

Top RBI Grade B 2026 Preparation Tips
- Phase 2 decides everything: 80% of final merit comes from Phase 2. Prioritize ESI, FM, and English writing from the very first week of preparation.
- Descriptive writing is the key differentiator: Most candidates prepare MCQs well — but high scorers master descriptive writing. Practice writing 2 essays, 1 précis, and 1 letter every week.
- Read RBI directly: rbi.org.in → Publications → Annual Report, Monetary Policy Report, Financial Stability Report. These are goldmines for both Phase 2 and Interview.
- Economic Survey + Budget annually: These two documents cover 15–20% of ESI content directly. Read them every year.
- 6-attempt limit for General: Don't waste attempts — ensure solid preparation before each attempt. DEPR/DSIM candidates with relevant Masters have a much lower competition ratio.
- Recommended books: Indian Economy — Ramesh Singh | Finance & Management — Prasanna Chandra + RBI publications | English — Wren & Martin + The Hindu editorials | Quant — R.S. Aggarwal | Reasoning — M.K. Pandey | GA — Arihant Banking Awareness + Lucent GK
- 8–12 months preparation: RBI Grade B needs long-term sustained preparation — 8 months minimum for focused candidates. Start with Phase 2 subjects first, then Phase 1.
