⚠️ One Zone Only — Important Rule
Candidates can apply to only ONE railway zone in RRB JE 2026. Submitting applications to multiple zones leads to disqualification of all applications. No PET in RRB JE: Unlike RRB Group D, there is NO Physical Efficiency Test in RRB JE — selection is purely academic (CBT-1 + CBT-2 + DV + Medical). This makes technical preparation even more critical.
RRB JE 2026 Application Form
Applications for RRB JE 2026 (CEN 05/2025) are CLOSED. The CBT-1 result has been released on 13 May 2026. Candidates shortlisted for CBT-2 should prepare for the technical stage now.

RRB JE 2026 Selection Process
| Stage | Test | Marks | Nature | Shortlisting |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | CBT-1 — Computer Based Test | 100 | Screening Only | 15× vacancy for CBT-2 |
| Stage 2 | CBT-2 — Technical Computer Based Test | 150 | Merit-based (Final Rank) | 1× vacancy for DV |
| Stage 3 | Document Verification (DV) | — | Mandatory | Verification |
| Stage 4 | Medical Examination | — | Mandatory | Final Appointment |
Key Selection Rule — CBT-2 is Everything
Final merit is based on CBT-2 normalized marks only. CBT-1 is purely a screening/eligibility filter — 15× vacancy are shortlisted for CBT-2. DV and Medical are qualifying stages. Normalization is applied across multiple CBT shifts. Tie-breaking: Higher age gets preference; if age is same, then alphabetical order of name. No PET: RRB JE has NO Physical Efficiency Test — this is a key difference from RRB Group D.
RRB JE 2026 Exam Pattern — CBT-1 & CBT-2
RRB JE has a two-stage CBT system. CBT-1 is a general aptitude screening test. CBT-2 is the technical merit test where the real competition happens. Both stages have 1/3 negative marking.

Official Cut Off Analysis — Key Insights
What the Official CEN 05/2025 Cut Offs Tell Us
- Highest cut offs (UR): RRB Kolkata (Cat 12: 87.50, Cat 24: 87.15, Cat 18: 86.63), RRB Kolkata Cat 5: 86.44, RRB Ajmer Cat 26: 85.73 — these are the most competitive zones and categories.
- Lowest cut offs (UR): RRB Guwahati (63.97–65.30 UR), RRB Bengaluru lower categories (63.19–66.35 UR) — these zones had fewer applicants or more vacancies relative to demand.
- SC category range: Typically 10–20 marks below UR in the same zone. RRB Bengaluru SC was as low as 44.72 (Cat 10) to 73.61 (Cat 18).
- ST category range: Generally 15–25 marks below UR. Bengaluru ST (Cat 10): 44.72 was the lowest observed UR-equivalent for ST.
- ESM (Ex-Servicemen): Significantly lower — typically 30–57 marks range, reflecting reserved quota. RRB Ajmer ESM was 31.39 for Cat 7.
- CBT-2 Safe Target: Based on CBT-1 cut offs being 63–87, the actual CBT-2 competition will be intense. Target 100+ out of 150 in CBT-2 (67%+) to be safe in competitive zones for UR.
- Zone strategy: Guwahati and smaller zones have comparatively lower cut offs. However, vacancies are also fewer — choose based on your engineering discipline's vacancy availability in that zone.
CBT-2 Expected Cut Off (Estimated)
Based on CBT-1 official cut offs and previous trends: CBT-2 UR expected range: 70–95 marks out of 150 | OBC: 60–85 | SC: 50–75 | ST: 45–65. Final merit is on CBT-2 only — candidates must score well above the cut off to ensure selection. Normalization will be applied across multiple shifts. Official CBT-2 cut off will be released by RRB after CBT-2 result declaration.
⚠️ Cat No. Reference — Discipline Mapping
The CAT_NO in cut off tables refers to post/discipline category numbers as per CEN 05/2025. Different category numbers correspond to different JE disciplines (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, ECE, IT), DMS, and CMA posts. Refer to the official CEN 05/2025 notification PDF on your respective RRB zone website for the exact CAT_NO to discipline mapping for your specific zone and post.

Top RRB JE 2026 Preparation Tips
- CBT-2 Technical is everything: 100/150 marks are from your engineering discipline. This is where selection happens. Invest 45% of your total study time in technical subjects from day one.
- 1/3 negative marking in BOTH stages: Skip when less than 60% confident. In CBT-2 technical, where questions are tougher, this discipline is critical — one wrong answer loses you 0.33 marks.
- CBT-1 is just a filter: Clear it comfortably (aim 70+) but don't obsess over it. Focus bulk energy on CBT-2 technical from the start — many students make the mistake of over-preparing CBT-1.
- Discipline-specific resources: Civil — Made Easy Civil Handbook + IS 456/IS 800; Electrical — Made Easy Electrical Handbook + Nagrath & Kothari; Mechanical — R.K. Bansal + P.K. Nag; ECE — Sedra/Smith + Haykin; IT — Programming fundamentals + OS + DBMS + Networking.
- NCERT 11–12 for General Science: All CBT-1 science questions are at 12th level. Read NCERT cover to cover for Physics, Chemistry, Biology — this gives you 30 marks.
- Railway GK in both CBTs: Both CBT-1 and CBT-2 have 15 GA marks each. Railway-specific GK (zones, HQs, Vande Bharat routes, Kavach system, Rail Budget) often contributes 3–5 questions in each. Don't miss 30 free marks.
- Best books (rrb je best book): Made Easy Engineering Handbooks (discipline-wise) | R.S. Aggarwal (Quant + Reasoning) | NCERT 11–12 (Science) | Lucent GK | Kiran's RRB JE Solved Papers | Arihant RRB JE Complete Guide
