What is RRB ALP 2026?
The Railway Recruitment Board ALP 2026 (CEN 01/2026) recruitment is conducted by RRBs to fill Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and Technician Grade-3 posts across 16 railway zones. With the previous cycle having 18,799 vacancies, RRB ALP remains one of the largest railway recruitment drives for ITI and diploma holders.
ALP is a prestigious career path — starting as ALP, candidates grow to become Loco Pilot (Goods) → LP (Mail/Express) → LP (Passenger) → Senior Loco Pilot. Final merit for ALP is based entirely on CBT-2 Part A normalized marks. CBAT and Medical are qualifying stages.

Important Application Tips
One Zone Only: You can apply to only ONE railway zone. Choose carefully based on vacancy availability for your trade and preferred posting location. Trade Selection: The trade you select at application stage determines your CBT-2 Part B syllabus — cannot be changed later. Medical Fitness (ALP): If applying for ALP, ensure your vision meets A-1 standard before applying — colour vision, night vision, and binocular vision are strictly tested.

| Feature | Details |
|---|---|
| Applicable For | ALP posts ONLY — Technician candidates do NOT appear for CBAT |
| Total Marks | 60 Marks (multiple test batteries) |
| Minimum Qualifying Marks | 42 out of 60 — NO category relaxation (SC/ST/OBC also need 42/60) |

⚠️ CBAT Preparation — Start Early
CBAT cannot be crammed — it tests inherent cognitive abilities that improve with regular practice. Start 2–3 months before the expected CBAT date. Key resources: Online CBAT simulators (Testbook, Oliveboard, RRB CBAT practice portals). Practice reaction time, pattern memory, depth perception exercises. Previous CBAT cut off (zone-wise, 2024–25): UR range 72–83/100 | SC range 65–78 | ST range 39–73 | OBC range 70–81. Target 50+ out of 60 in CBAT to be safe.

Top RRB ALP 2026 Preparation Tips
- CBT-2 Part A is where selection happens: Basic Science & Engineering (40/100 marks) is the single most important section. Engineering Drawing, Electrical basics, Units & Measurements — these 40 marks separate toppers.
- CBT-2 Part B — no negative marking, attempt all: Since there's no penalty for wrong answers in Part B, attempt all 75 questions. Even blind guessing gives expected 25% correct. Prepare your ITI trade syllabus from NCVT textbooks.
- CBAT cannot be crammed: Start CBAT practice 2–3 months before exam. Use online RRB CBAT simulators. Reaction time, pattern memory, and depth perception improve with daily practice.
- Medical fitness (ALP): A-1 medical standard is mandatory — colour vision, night vision, binocular vision, visual acuity. Avoid excessive screen time. Get eyes checked before applying.
- CBT-1 is just a filter — clear it safely: Target 60+ out of 75. Don't over-prepare CBT-1 — invest most time in CBT-2 Part A technical content.
- Best books (rrb alp best book): R.S. Aggarwal (Quant + Reasoning) | NCERT 9–10 (Science) | Arihant RRB ALP Basic Science & Engineering | Made Easy RRB ALP Guide | NCVT Trade Theory Books | Kiran's RRB ALP Solved Papers
- Running Allowance advantage (ALP): Though ALP starts at ₹19,900 basic (lower than Technician), the running allowance can add ₹5,000–15,000/month extra. Over a career, ALP earns significantly more than starting pay suggests.
