Candidates shortlisted for PET = 3× vacancy count (category-wise).

| Reasoning Weightage | 30/100 marks (30%) — highest single section; master this for maximum marks |
RRB Group D 2026 — PET (Physical Efficiency Test)
The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is the second stage of selection in RRB Group D 2026. It is a qualifying test — candidates either pass or fail. PET marks are NOT added to final merit. Candidates shortlisted for PET = 3× vacancy (category-wise).
PET Standards — Male vs Female
| Activity | Male Candidates | Female Candidates | Nature |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weight Lifting & Carry | 35 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes (1 chance only) | 20 kg for 100 metres in 2 minutes (1 chance only) | Qualifying |
| Running | 1000 metres in 4 minutes 15 seconds (1 chance only) | 1000 metres in 5 minutes 40 seconds (1 chance only) | Qualifying |

Lowest cut off zones: Northeast Frontier Railway (61–69 UR), North Eastern Railway (66–73 UR), South Western Railway (68–73 UR). Candidates should aim for 85+ marks in CBT to safely clear any zone. Color coding: 🟢 High (75+), 🔵 Medium (65–74), 🟣 Lower (below 65).
Category-wise Expected Cut Off — All India Average
| Category | Expected Cut Off Range (Out of 100) | Minimum Qualifying % | Safe Target |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR (General) | 65–83 (varies by zone) | 40% | 85+ |
| EWS | 63–82 (varies by zone) | 40% | 82+ |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 59–81 (varies by zone) | 30% | 78+ |
| SC | 51–73 (varies by zone) | 30% | 72+ |
| ST | 46–66 (varies by zone) | 30% | 65+ |
| Minimum qualifying (official) | UR/EWS: 40% | OBC/SC/ST: 30% (absolute minimum — not final cut off) | ||
Category-wise Insight
The minimum qualifying marks (40%/30%) are just the floor — actual cut offs are much higher due to competition. For UR in competitive zones like Northern Railway, the cut off can reach 83/100. Even SC/ST candidates in Northern Railway face cut offs of 61–73. Aim at least 10 marks above the zone-wise expected cut off for your category to ensure selection.
How to Use the Zone-wise Cut Off Data
Step-by-Step Guide to Cut Off Strategy
- Step 1 — Know your zone: You applied to ONE zone only. Find that zone in the All Zones table above to know your target cut off range.
- Step 2 — Know your category: Find the cut off column for your category (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) in your zone row.
- Step 3 — Set your target score: Add 5–8 marks to the upper end of the expected cut off range. This is your minimum target in CBT.
- Step 4 — Plan subject-wise: Reasoning (30 marks) is your biggest opportunity — aim for 25+ here. Science (25 marks) from NCERT — target 20+. Math (25 marks) — target 18+. GA (20 marks) — target 15+. Total target: 80+.
- Step 5 — Manage negative marking: 1/3 negative marking — skip questions where you are less than 60% sure. Random guessing is dangerous.
- Step 6 — PET preparation: Don't neglect PET. Start running and weight training NOW — parallel to CBT prep. Even a 90/100 CBT score is useless if you fail PET.
Cut Off Data Disclaimer
All cut off figures above are expected/estimated based on previous RRB Group D recruitment trends. The 2026 actual cut off will depend on: total applicants who appear for CBT, difficulty level of the exam, total vacancies in each zone and category, and normalization formula applied. Official cut off for 2026 will be released by RRB only after CBT result declaration.

RRB Group D 2026 Preparation Strategy (rrb group d taiyari kaise kare)
| Subject / Area | Priority | Strategy | Target Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reasoning (30 marks) | Highest (30/100) | Daily puzzle practice, series and coding-decoding drills. 30 reasoning questions/day minimum. Use R.S. Aggarwal for concept building. | 25–28/30 |
| Mathematics (25 marks) | High (25/100) | Formula cards, shortcut tricks. Focus on Arithmetic topics (Percentage, P&L, Interest, Ratio, T-S-D). NCERT Class 9–10 + R.S. Aggarwal Quant. | 19–23/25 |
| General Science (25 marks) | High (25/100) | NCERT Class 9–10 (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) — concept clarity over memorization. Lucent General Science for revision. Use flashcards for formulae. | 19–22/25 |
| General Awareness (20 marks) | Medium (20/100) | Daily current affairs (last 6–12 months), Lucent GK for static, Railway GK (zones, HQs, projects, Vande Bharat, Kavach). | 14–17/20 |

Top RRB Group D 2026 Preparation Tips
- Reasoning is king in Group D: 30/100 marks — the single highest-weighted section. Invest 30% of study time here. Series and coding-decoding alone can give you 8–10 marks.
- 1/3 negative marking — be careful: Unlike many state exams, Group D CBT has strict 1/3 negative marking. Attempt only those questions where you are at least 60% confident. Random guessing is counterproductive.
- NCERT for Science: All General Science questions are Class 9–10 NCERT level. Read NCERT books cover to cover for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology — this gives you 25 marks.
- Railway GK in GA: Even in 20 GA marks, Railway-specific GK (zones, HQs, Vande Bharat routes, Kavach, Rail Budget) often contributes 3–5 questions. Don't miss easy marks.
- Time management in CBT: 100 questions in 90 minutes = 54 seconds per question. Practice speed alongside accuracy in mock tests. Attempt Reasoning first (easiest for most), then Science, then Math, then GA.
- PET starts on Day 1: Don't delay physical training — start running and weight training from today. Many CBT-cleared candidates fail PET due to lack of preparation. Both activities are mandatory to pass.
